Michigan Masters Swimmers Complete the USMS 25K Open Water Championship
Four swimmers from Michigan competed in the solo 25K open water National Championship swim on June 18th in the Morse Reservoir in Noblesville, Indiana. Jenny Birmelin, Todd Briggs, Denise Brown, and Michele Intermont.

Jenny Birmelin, Michigan Masters Swimmer, Completes the English Channel Swim!
Farmington Hills resident Jenny Birmelin, age 34, has earned her place in history as the first Michigan woman to complete a solo swim of the English Channel. She began her swim Saturday, August 20 at Shakespeare Beach in Dover, England at 4:05 AM GMT (12:05 AM EST) adn arrived 3:36 PM GMT (11:36 AM EST) the same day on the sandy beach of Wissant, France. While the English Channel is 21 miles, Jenny actually swam 28 land miles (24 nautical miles) due to the tides. Her official recorded time is 11 hours, 31 minutes, 7 seconds - faster than her anticipated time of 13 hours. Jenny's time is in the fastest twenty-five percent of all English Channel solo swim times (414 out of 1651). Records have been kept since the first solo swim in 1875.
