We have two options for workouts depending on
which pool you would like to work out at (see below). Workouts are
from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. M - F at both locations.
Option #1:
The Livonia YMCA (734-261-2161)
in Livonia, MI on Stark Rd just north of I-96. There is no charge to
swim on the Masters team, but you need a YMCA membership. Livonia Y
memberships cost $49.00 per month. If you have a membership at
another YMCA, they are generally transferable. Call one of the
contacts below if you would like to swim as a guest before joining
the Livonia YMCA. The pool is a 6 lane, 25 yard pool.
Option #2:
The Livonia Community Recreation
Center (734-466-2900) in Livonia, MI on Hubbard & 5
Mile Road just east of Farmington Rd. This 130,000 square foot $30
Million recreation complex opened in 2003. The pool is an 8 lane, 8
foot deep, 25yd/25M lap pool. There is no charge to swim on the
Masters team, but you need a Rec Center Membership. Annual
memberships are very reasonable for Livonia residents and
competitively priced for non-residents. Daily passes are available
as well, but are rather pricey ($6.50 for residents/$13 for
non-residents per day last time we checked). Call the number above
24 hours a day for all current rates.
We are a small informal group of dedicated
swimmers of all levels that likes to have fun. Our team divided when
the new Recreation Center opened in 2003. Several of us from both
locations go out to eat breakfast at a local restaurant after
practices every Friday during the fall, winter & spring months. The
first Thursday of every month during the fall, winter & spring
swimmers are timed in any event(s) they would like to swim. During
the summer months (June, July & August) many of us swim outdoors at
the Jack Dunworth Memorial Pool in Dearborn, MI.
United States Masters Swimming (USMS) membership is $30/year.
